New Zealand celebrated its flagship wine variety, Sauvignon Blanc, with a three-day event for the ‘who’s who’ of the wine industry.

Following a successful first edition in 2016, Sauvignon 2019 brought the world’s leading wine producers, experts and key influencers to the Marlborough region to explore the complexity of Sauvignon Blanc, emerging styles, vineyard practices, winemaking influences and future trends.

Hosted by New Zealand Winegrowers, the International Sauvignon Blanc Celebration was built around three themes: Place, Purity and Pursuit.

Some 400 guests attended a programme of seminars and panel discussions, with keynote speakers including nine Masters of Wine from around the world. Guests had the opportunity to sample more than 200 different examples of Sauvignon Blanc from across the globe.

Social events included an opening evening in the Awatere Valley’s secluded Paripuma Gardens, with a lavish selection of New Zealand wine and food.

The sold-out gala event ‘Blanc’, a dinner-en-blanc theme, was held at Brancott Vineyard on the second evening, with celebrity chef Martin Bosley the culinary director of the gourmet feast.

To complete the celebration, guests discovered New Zealand’s 'wild' side at the Marisco River Hut, with gourmet wild game-infused cuisine, plus live entertainment.
